Vivian Calhoun Harper was called home to be with her Lord at age 73 at her home in Watson, LA March 19, 2025.
She was born July 3rd, 1951, in Opp, Alabama. She grew up in Mobile, Alabama, where she graduated from Davidson High School in May of 1970. There she met the love of her life, Gerry Harper. Two weeks after graduating, they married on June 6, 1970. Their first child, Ken, was welcomed October 25, 1972. Three years later they welcomed their daughter, Kristin, on December 1, 1975.
After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Vivian found her true passion working Labor and Delivery as a Registered Nurse. After her years of service in the field, she continued her dedication to nursing by teaching both future LPNs and CNAs.
Faithfully, she served the Lord her entire life. She enjoyed pouring the love she received from the Lord into others. Second to her faith, her family was the most important thing to her. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and found much joy in spending time with her family. She showed everyone she met the love of the Lord in her kind and gentle ways.
Vivian was very creative and constantly made things for her family. From crocheting, sewing, and making potholders, to drawing, coloring, and painting, she was always busy. She was a member of Istrouma Baptist Church, where she served alongside her husband as a Sunday School teacher.
Vivian is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Gerry Harper; two children, Ken Harper (Jennifer), and Kristin Harper Arbour (John); 6 grandchildren, Kendal, Braytin, Jace, and Britleigh Harper, and Allie and Anna Arbour; sister, Helen Farley (Ray), and brother, Joel Calhoun (Brenda); and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father, Aubrey Hoover Calhoun; mother, Luna Vay Norris Calhoun; father-in-law, Wallace Richard Harper; mother-in-law, Bernadine Celeste Lee Harper; sister Mary Evelyn Calhoun Lowell; brothers-in-law, Gene Austin Lowell Sr. and Wallace (Dick) Richard Harper Jr.; and sister-in-law, Alice Faye Gunter Calhoun.
