Walter Mackey, Jr., age 61, of Bay Minette, Alabama, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019, at his home.
Walter worked at the Baldwin County Highway Department for twenty-five years, beginning in 1990. While he worked in the engineering department, he established a state-recognized, outstanding bridge inspection program for the county and served as manager on many major construction projects. In 2008, Walter and his friend Michael created their own bridge inspection company, Safe Span, LLC. His company now serves cities, counties, and private bridge owners throughout Alabama. In 2017, he started working with Stantec Consulting as a project manager.
Walter was also a former member of a Mardi Gras Mystic Society in Mobile and was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide football fan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Howard Mackey, Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Lamberth Mackey; daughter, Crystal Moorer Richardson; grandson, Keaton Richardson; mother, Celia Mackey; numerous cousins and other relatives; and his furry babies, Li’l Dibble and Baby Dewey.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
