Walter Reinhaus

September 13, 1923 — July 19, 2017

Walter Reinhaus, a native of New Jersey, whose happiest childhood memories are of fishing with his dad, skating on an ice-covered river in winter and visits to his grandfather's delicatessen. He was baptized Methodist. Following high school, he served in the Army in France and Germany during WWII. After he was discharged he completed studies in medical technology and radiology in Philadelphia, PA where he met Flo.
After a time they married and Walt was employed at a medical laboratory and attended Temple University in Philadelphia. A few years later, they relocated to Mobile and became chief technologist at Mobile City Hospital. Walt pursued his interest in electronics and, following completion of his studies, he joined the International Paper Woodlands Division as Radio Engineer, being licensed by FCC. He was also an amateur radio operator as a hobby. In this capacity he provided communications for citizens, military and missionaries, connecting them with families back home.
Walt's lifelong interest in flying motivated him to take lessons. He became a licensed pilot, and in addition to being a radio engineer for IP, he flew their corporate planes as co-pilot, as needed.
Walt and Flo joined Central Presbyterian Church in 1956.. He also broadcast church services for Springhill Presbyterian until it was ended. They joined Overlook in 1971.
Walt and Flo were blessed with three wonderful Children, whom he dearly loves. Any day one will call and say, "I have a question for dad." Karen's words say it best: "I cherish my childhood memories, when you played with us. You are a dad I always felt safe with in a car, boat or plane. I always knew you loved me; the times you sat and gently combed my tangled hair; you taught me to drive, walked me to the altar at my wedding and even held your first newly born grandchild. Thanks dad, I love you".
Walt is Christian; he is my best friend and soul mate. He loves his Lord and lives by the Golden Rule. I thank God for him every day.
