On Friday, August 11, 2023, Wayne Eslava (Wayne Miguel Eslava, Jr.) passed away as he always said that he would; working on a jobsite constructing the beautiful gunite pools that he was known best for, in Saraland, AL at the age of 65. He was taken from us by a severe and unforeseen heart attack. Aid was rendered to him by his loyal employees and the project homeowners, sadly to no avail.
Wayne, also known to some as Mike or Michael, was born on June 13, 1958 in Mobile, Al to parents Wayne Miguel Eslava, Sr. and Betty Odom Eslava Guillot, who both preceded him in death. He attended WP Davidson High School with the graduating class of 1976.
He had a lifelong love of all things fast cars and drag racing. He most recently had been involved in the construction and operation of jet-powered drag racing cars. He and his associates set numerous track records at drag strips from the gulf coast and all the way into the Carolinas. Also, many of his friends from youth will remember his exploits on dirt and street motorcycles alike. He was a rider with the Conde Cavaliers Mardi Gras organization for over a decade, and loved celebrating with his close family and friends on parade day at his suite at the Malaga Inn.
In business, Wayne owned Deep South Gunite Pools, which he started in 1984, at the age of 26. He possessed an old-school work ethic that his clients admired and remembered him by, and would say that he was the hardest-working boss man they'd ever seen. His artistic talents complemented this ethic to produce some of the nicest, and most durable, pools in town. He worked closely with his brother, Garrick Eslava (Rick) for 37 years, and constructed pools from Pigeon Forge, TN to Lake Charles, LA, and even built a large indoor pool/spa facility at a Memphis, TN area casino/hotel. Swimming pools were his stock and trade for his entire working life.
He is survived by his brother, Garrick Eslava (Julie Neese Eslava), and two sisters, Amber Mathers and Christa Eiland (Bill). He also is survived by three loving stepsisters, Tonya Beech, of Lucedale, MS, Kelly Beech, of Neptune Beach, FL, and Ashley Reid (Jay), of Brentwood, TN.
Visitation will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens in Mobile, AL, on Three Notch Road, on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 4:00-6:00PM. The family requests donations to one's preferred animal charity in Wayne's name in lieu of flowers.
