Native of Memphis and long time resident of Mobile, William R. Rick Burnette, Jr. passed away June 1, 2014.
Rick was a Vietnam Era Air Force veteran who retired from federal service at the VA Medical Clinic in Mobile.
He was a Square Dance caller for more than 35 years and served on many committees at local, state and national levels.
Rick was previously employed by Goodwill Easter Seals as Transportation Dept Mgr. Other employment in the area included Jewelry sales at Gulf Coast Jewelry, Service Dept. Mgr at Mobile Fixture, security at Mobile Greyhound Park, as well as Medical billing and office management for local physicians practices.
Rick was a member of Le Krewe de Bienville civic Mardi Gras Society and served as President and leader of the organizations 1996 Let The Good Times Roll annual ball and parade.
Rick was a member of First Baptist Church of Tillmans Corner.
His interests included traveling especially cruising, fishing, gospel music, photography and geneaology research. He was a student of civil war history through reading and travel.
Recent temporary residence at Homestead Retirement Village in Fairhope afforded Rick the opportunity for social interaction, varied activities and entertainment whether on his cane or riding around on his scooter. He was receiving peritoneal dialysis under the direction of Fresenius Medical.
Rick is predeceased by his father William R. Bill Burnette, Sr. and mother Ruth Boling Burnette who worked at Brookley Field and Warner Robbins, GA before retiring to Mobile. Both were employed at Mobile Greyhound Park along with Rick.
He is survived by wife Sandra Hinton DeCord, three daughters Traci B. Mark Andrzejewski, Melissa B. Eddie Dees, and Allison B. Marty Harris one son Frank D. Marsha DeCord, Jr. grandchildren Brandon Anderson, Ryan April Watts, Bret Stauffacher, Shelby Dees, Camdon Mathis, Avarie Harris, Aaron DeCord and Cameron DeCord, Emily, Matt and Charleigh May.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday June 4, 2014 at Mobile Memorial Gardens,
6040 Three Notch Rd.
