HARRIS
Dec. 27, 2016
William Henry (Bill) Harris, 86, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, at his home, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Henrietta Culpepper Harris. William was born on May 8, 1930, in Dothan, Alabama, to the late Johnnie Green Harris and Earl Musette Woodham Harris. After graduating from Bay County High School in Panama City, Florida, he worked for International Paper before he attended Auburn University (then Alabama Polytechnic Institute), where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, and graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1956. Upon graduation, he accepted an offer to continue his career with International Paper in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. On July 8, 1956, William met the delight of his life, his wife Henrietta, at Southside Baptist Church in Pine Bluff. They were married at the same church on April 28, 1957. After a very rewarding career with International Paper, which included eight moves to seven different cities, William retired in Mobile, Alabama, as the Director of Corporate Engineering. He has resided there with his wife since retirement. In addition to his parents, William is preceded in death by his sister Patricia Ann Kirkland. Aside from his wife, he is survived by his three children, Lee Ann Harris of Wetumpka, Alabama, William David Harris (along with his wife Nathalie Owen Harris and children William David, Jr. and Daniel Bradford) of Natchez, Mississippi, and James Richard Harris of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and his brother Johnny Moody Harris of Panama City, Florida. William's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Providence Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospice, and Visiting Angels for their tireless assistance. The family will host a visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2016 preceding the funeral at 2:00 p.m. All services will be at the Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at 6040 Three Notch Rd., Mobile, Alabama, 36619. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilememorialfunerals.com.
