May 16, 1947 – January 16, 2021
William “Billy” Raymond Kent, 73, of Mobile, AL, passed away on January 16, 2021, while surrounded by family.
Born and raised in Mobile, AL, Billy graduated from B.C. Rain High School, then joined the United States Marine Corps at age 19. As a Lance Corporal, he bravely served on the front lines in the Vietnam War. For his bravery and service, Billy was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal and the Vietnamese Campaign Medal.
Billy had a strong work ethic, retiring from a long career with Kimberly Clark and spending most of his retirement days working down by Mobile Bay, building piers, hauling gravel and the like. Billy was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and attended regularly with his family. He was also a proud member of the Conde Cavaliers, regarding those men as his brothers and true lifelong friends. Billy never met a stranger and was well respected among colleagues and acquaintances alike.
While away from work, Billy enjoyed spending time with family and friends the most. He loved to travel, cruising all over the Caribbean, and attending the annual races at Talladega and Daytona with friends. Billy loved to deer hunt, fish, watch Alabama Football and spend time outdoors with the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Dylan and Kinley Jones. He was a man of bravery, honor, love, respect, and character. He was always the “life of the party” and will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Billy will be cherished and forever remembered by his wife and greatest love, Marilyn Shanks; daughter and son-in-law Meredith and Luke Jones and grandchildren Dylan and Kinley Jones. He is also survived by several sons, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and many, many friends. Billy is preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Kent, and two brothers John Clifford Kent, Jr. and Robert “Larry” Kent.
A celebration of Billy’s life will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Mobile, AL from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. Family and friends are invited to join us in honoring the love, life and legacy of Billy Kent.
