He entered this world on September 14, 1941, in Dayton, OH to Robert Jack and Mary Lee Mitzner.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Annette Mitzner, parents, Robert Jack and Mary Lee Mitzner, and sisters, Mary Bauman and Paula Burrows.

Jerry loved his family and is survived by son, Michael Jerry Mitzner, daughter, Amy Lynn Mitzner, his grandchildren, Michael Jerry Mitzner II, Matthew Robert Mitzner, Sophia Marie Mitzner, Alexander Winslow Green, and Jeremiah Winslow Green, and sister, Jacqueline Gladin.

Jerry received degrees in Mathematics and Physics from the University of North Alabama where he was active in ROTC and also the Alabama Army National Guard. Also, during his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Basic Missileman Badge, and The Army Commendation Medal. His military career, while brief, was a very pivotal period that shaped both his character and future career. Military service opened doors for him to work as a NASA contractor where he was involved in both the early satellite and early-astronaut space programs. During this period, he learned computer programming which then began a private-sector career ending with his retirement at IBM. Jerry was a devout Christian and shared his faith with his family, staying active at Spring Hill Baptist Church and also as a volunteer with McKemie Place, a local Mobile-area women's homeless shelter.

A memorial service for the family will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2020, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in the name of William Jerry Mitzner to "McKemie Place".
