Winifred Mae Gearing Hoffman, a resident of Mobile, AL died peacefully at home Wednesday, July 1, 2015. She was a retired paralegal for the County of Mobile. Mrs. Hoffman was preceded in death by her parents, Lt. Commissioner Raymond Dewey Gearing, Sr. and Lt. Commissioner Winifred Osmond Gearing; her brother, Frederick Osmond Gearing; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Gearing and Marge Gearing. She is survived by a beautifully blended family: Her husband, Richard D. Hoffman, Sr.; children, Ross (Joanna) Stocks, Crystal (Ken) Stephenson, Dana Stocks (John) Douglas, Holly Hoffman (Jimmy) Farmer, Richard D. (Jackie) Hoffman, Jr., Loretta (Tyler) Dixon and Georgeanne (Scott) Raper; her brothers, Raymond D. (Susie) Gearing, Jr. and Charles (Carol) Gearing; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Monday evening, July 6, 2015 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 10:00 AM from the Chapel of the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens. The family suggests that memorial donations in Mrs. Hoffman's name be made to the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, 257 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36602.
